Let there be perspex...

Found this very interesting sit called, Punky pins

The reason I am putting this on my blog is because of their perspex jewellery
it is so inspirational, simple and fun. Go take a look.

I am aiming to make perspex jewellery that is a bit more sofisticated and a little less funky.
Aimed at an older audience but still statement pieces that demand attention,
jewellery that is different and beautiful.

My inspirational space...

I thought I would give you a sneak peek into my
working areas which I have just completed...

This is the display cabinet from my end of year show, it is now
placed in my bedroom and used as my designing desk.

Each compartment lights up so I can design at all hours day or night.
On the desk I have a digital photo frame I loaded images onto it,
it works like a slide show continuously bringing up images to
help inspire me.

I have kept my pieces of jewellery in the compartments, this too helps
give me ideas and questions whilst still inspiring me to work.
In the long compartment is my Siamese fighting fish- fizzer.

I have a water feature on the end of my desk
it provides a tranquil sound while I'm working.

My logo!!!! I love my logo, it's been sandblasted onto perspex
with vinyl decals for the words.
(thanks William for my beautiful designing area.)

The next area is just as, if not more important that my design area,
my work bench, I've finished painting and setting up, I love it.
You know its a good space when you can't wait to go there and work...

Perspex range

I am absolutely loving my new perspex range
these are only the first couple of pieces and I
have a lot more still in process.

I feel I have found the medium
I would like to work in now it's just a matter of getting things going.

The white perspex gives the pieces such a clean, pure feel
while the tribal designs give them more of an edge.

Finally finished my B-tech

Wow, what a crazy month!
Just looked at my blog and realised it has been over a month since my last posting.
I feel so bad for neglecting my blog but finally I am free to continue writing again.
So a quick catch up:
I completed my first draft of my research report, and I'm very happy with it
(104 pages later.) I have spoken to my lecturer so now I need to do a few corrections .
I will be posting my report on my research report blog shortly (see link on side.)
Got some perspex jewellery made which seems to be a good direction for me to persue.
We had our final end of year exhibition and it went very well, my stand was gorgeous
( thanks to my boyfriend for organising it, and his boss Craig for getting it made.)
I will post some pictures when I get them.
The stand is now being used in my room as a design desk.
I have set up a work studio in my outside shed,
spent this week painting and decorating it
I am so excited to start working in there.
Yesterday was my Birthday and I got a pendant motor from my boyfriend,
so happy as this is a vital tool for my jewellery studio at home. Just need to organise the gas and oxygen cylinders and I am good to go.
Also trying to organise internet and a laptop for home
as I am currently only posting when I go to someones house with internet.
I am planning to open my own etsy shop within the next month so keep a look out.
So now you can see why its been so hectic for me.

Trip to the snow...

I haven't bloogged in a while as it's been holidays for the last week.
Not that I had much of a holiday- I've been working
on my research report.
I've also been setting up my studio at home,
I gave it a new coat of paint and started laying out my tools.
Will load pictures when its finished.

The best part of my holiday was last Sunday when
I went up to see the snow at Creighton.

We packed blankets, hot chocolate and snacks and the whole family
set off on our 1hr 30min journey (what us Durbanites will do for snow.)
We got a bit worried as we could only see snow high up on the mountains.
Thought it may have already melted but
as we turned the one corner there it was...

It is only the second time I've ever seen snow and my
little sisters first time, which is rather ironic considering she is a
figure skater and I am a coach.

We were invited to my other sisters friends farm,
we landed up staying out there for 4 hrs.
It was so magical and beautiful and clean.
I loved every minute of that day and will remember it forever...

Butterfly takes flight...

Considering I have been making these Edgy, hardcore butterflies
which represent the notion of femme fatale- strong women...

I decided to use ribbon as opposed to chain to attach
these butterflies to the body. I felt the chain was too heavy looking
I wanted to give the impression of butterflies in flight, thus I
used a softer, lighter looking material- ribbon...

I felt that as I already had the harder, edgy feel of the piece with
the use of the blackening I needed to use a more feminine colour.

What's more feminine than pink?
I added a pink stone to the center of the butterfly too in order to
balance it with the ribbon.
